Central Catholic High School Volleyball crushed fundraising expectations in their first year with Play4TheCure. With thoughtful fundraising efforts and community involvement, Central Catholic Volleyball honored those with cancer while supporting cancer research at the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

Fundraising

Central Catholic Volleyball employed multiple fundraising strategies to collect donations from friends, family and fans.

Many teams wait until game day to fundraise. Not Central Catholic Volleyball. To maximize fundraising efforts, the team designed and sold bracelets for $2 each, leading up to the game.

During the game the team had a bake sale, boosting game-day excitement. The team also obtained additional monetary donations from generous donors, eager to support the cause. Many people donated in honor or memory of loved ones who were diagnosed with cancer or who have passed away from cancer.

Game Day Atmosphere

The players worked hard to promote attendance before the game. They utilized social media to advertise the event and the cause, and they coordinated pink outfits to raise awareness for breast cancer. The bracelet sales also helped to bring attention to the event.

“The best part was when the Play4TheCure game was officially here,” Oliva Hall, senior captain and outside hitter, recalls. “The gym was decorated, the baked goods were selling fast, and we actually had a fan section for the game.”

The game was especially significant because Central Catholic Volleyball played their rivals, Andover. Scheduling Play4TheCure events during rival games is strategic and can help teams draw larger crowds, and, therefore, donations.

“The crowd was loud,” Olivia says. “So many people were there to support the teams, but also to help the fundraising.”

Community Impact

Through Play4TheCure, the team used their love for volleyball to support cancer research and make a difference in their community.

“Everyone feels that they are playing for a cause that is bigger than themselves,” Emily Downer, senior and middle hitter, reflects. “We see this event having a tremendous impact on our school community because it promotes doing kind things for others in order to better the world. Through fundraising and creating an inspiring environment, I believe that our school really came together in order to support those that fought and/or fighting against cancer.”

With hard work, dedication, and the support of their community, Central Catholic Volleyball raised $1,205 for cancer research at the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Great work, Central Catholic Volleyball! We can’t wait to work with you again next year!
